“Wow, life can be a battle; making my way through this magical country, left me full of experiences which difficultly cannot explain with words. I saw the most beautiful landscapes, the most exotics cultures and life in all its angles. I saw the love and at the end, the lack of love. At the end of all, in this country, I got the experiences more transcendental of my life, where I met the love, the lack of love, and had had everything and then lost it from a day to other. After I had passed through this difficult transition in between the loneliness and far away from friends, family, culture, language, unemployed and in winter, when I thought that nothing could get better, thank God, Angelica and the organization showed up. I want to say Thank you to Angelica, all RoH staff, and other organisations. For their support and collaboration to go back to Colombia and help me in this last moment in Australia. A thousand blessings and successes in their jobs, they are a big help for Latins in Australia. If in anytime, my wife, friends, see this message, I would like to let them know that I went back grateful because I learnt from them in this stage of my life, which enriches me with their example and I hope one day, I can give something back for all the support and help in Australia”

“I would like to thank everyone at Refuge of Hope.  Everyone made my arrival from Colombia to Melbourne a lot easier.  I feel safe and that I have made some connections for when I am sad from being away from my family in my country.  Thank you especially for the food bank, this helped me so much while I look for work”

“A thousand thank you to the whole organization and for the commitment of the entire team at ROH.  Places like this allow us to make friends and create lasting bonds, not just meet people.  I am amazed at this activity, to be able to receive such a generous package of groceries, especially when I needed it the most, is something that I can’t put into words.

I have been unemployed for 2 months now, but the feelings of distress and hopelessness has reduced thanks to everybody I have connected with and the activities I have taken part in.  I feel like my batteries have been recharged, in this land far from my home”

“Refuge of Hope….  It has been my home, I love the good energy of the team, they are very loving, because I feel that they do all the activities from heart, and I feel supported and backed up, I feel part of this community, connected with Refuge. Because I was fortunate to be in contact with them from the first month of being here in Australia and Refuge has been my guide and support, they have strongly supported this life changing process, positively going through this process of change.

Always ready to serve unconditionally. The best thing about Refuge is to do all activities from the heart, with unconditional surrender, strengthening the spirit”

“I do not know where to start; I am so grateful for this organization.

My story in Australia was short, but full of huge learning experiences. Seven months, but its feel like many years due to all the things lived.  Like any human being, I had many ups and downs. Through a friend, I was introduced to Refuge of Hope.

When I met them, I was going through a difficult emotional time... The passing of my Father happened while I was here, far away from my home.  It was like arriving to a new family. They offered me support and tools to help me face this bereavement. They always were following my process and when I had any free time, I took advantage to go and visit them in the office... They always were there with a smile and a hug.  That is enough to start a good day. Everything in Australia is uncertain for me. But someone said ‘God does not give you things that you cannot stand up’ and effectively I have to say thanks God to put RoF in my way.

INFINITE THANKS”

“I have attended the Independence Day celebration, Candles Night, and the School of the Word. Refuge of Hope has been a home for me. I love the team’s positive energy. They really lovely. I feel like they run all of the activities with so much heart and I feel really supported. I feel connected to the community because of Refuge of Hope. I feel really fortunate that I have been in contact with Refuge of Hope since the first month that I arrived in Australia because of all of their guidance and support. The best thing about this organization has to be the amount of heart they put into all of the activities they run”

Refuge of Hope has been like a family for me. Nobody can feel that love for their Latin American neighbours giving support and taking care of you such this organisation does. Thank you for being part of such a wonderful family.

On November 29, 2014, I received to call to say my son, Diego, had a motor bike accident near Melbourne, Australia. He was in a very bad condition in a coma and brain dead. In a few days, l was on a plane to Australia, preparing to say my last goodbyes. Arriving at the airport in Melbourne, l was quickly overwhelmed. I could not speak English, and I did not have accommodation. I did not even know how to catch a taxi to the hospital. Someone told me about a new the organisation in Melbourne that was helping Latinos.

Within a few days, Refuge of Hope found me accommodation and quickly introduced me to a family of Spanish speaking people in Melbourne. The next months were very hard for my son in his recovery. Up’s and downs. Highs and lows. My friends at Refuge of Hope were there beside me. After 10 months in Melbourne, l returned to my home. Diego is out of hospital and on the path of recovery. I feel deep love and gratitude to my friends at Refuge of Hope.

The organisation means so much to me; a family, a home, a refuge, and a mantle of love and protection that God has placed on my life, they will always be in my heart and in my prayers.
