Refuge of Hope (RoH), a program of Community Hubs Australia, is a not-for-profit community organisation that aims to assist international students and migrants from Latin America in their transition into a healthy and happy settlement in Victoria.
We offer activities, information and referral services supporting students in need to overcome any cultural and language barriers. We see ourselves as a “home away from home” for people from South America.
What We Do
We provide information to help Latin American International Students (LAIS) make an easy transition to life in Victoria.
We provide referral pathways to specialized services to help people to address challenges they might face.
We bring the Latin Community together for events of fun and celebration. We offer introductory English conversation classes and information on practical advice for starting a new life.
When Angelica Correa arrived in Australia from Colombia, she faced a number of cultural and social barriers blocking her to start to life in Melbourne.
Inspired to help fellow Latin Americans who may have found themselves in a similar position, Angelica drew upon her skills as a social worker and founded Refuge of Hope.
RoH began in 2013, with a focus on programs to improve health & well being, community connection and settlement into Victoria for Latin Americans.
In 2015, Community Hubs Australia became a major supporter of Refuge of Hope. Since then, the two organisations have worked closely to enhance our impact in the LAIS community.
